Michael – Live Music Video Production, Manchester

I’ve worked with the Character Portrait project before, but this was different. We were outside. Lighting, sound, and power are always different when you are outside. We had to make sure we filmed the whole thing before the sun changed too much. We recorded the guitar and mic both straight into the Zoom H5, then sent the tracks off to Matthew Tuckey to mix and master.

Pioneer – Annual Leaders Conference Photography

Photography

Capturing Christian large events is one of the things I do regularly. I have been to venues all over the country, with all different streams of Churches, but this was right at home in Manchester.

Who are Pioneer

We’re a relational network committed to connecting, inspiring and equipping churches in the UK and globally. We want to play our part in the re-evangelisation of the nations, planting churches, equipping existing churches, and training and releasing leaders

Their website

The conference was a few hundred church leaders from around the UK and world. They have an annual conference for leaders, and they host this in the North and South of the country on alternating years.

What did I do

Photograph the event. I had my GH5 with me, and I captured a range of key moments throughout the conference. You can see a quick selection below —

Roar: Northampton Film

Filmed + Edited this recently.

I’m growing a love for projects like this – the brief was roughly… “Create a documentary from the event, something that shows people what it’s like to preach the gospel in a town square of the UK, show the rawness, and real bits as well as the headlines.”
Not only the creative freedom but also the subject make working on something like this a real pleasure.

Gear + Process:

GH5, GX80, Samyang 12mm & Lumix 25mm, and a 17-50mm.
Sound – Rode NTG4+ and VideoMicro. NTG4+ went into the Zoom H5.
Stage audio was recorded directly from the desk, and I added some reverb and distortion later.
Edited in FCPX, Colour was done with Curves.
Music from Soundstripe.
Turn around was just about a week.

Cassius – I made a Music Video

This was so much fun cause I was working with a number of other creative people to make a project come together.

The vision of the whole thing was James — https://www.facebook.com/characterportrait/

The branding was Dave Perkins, who just isn’t on the internet, but you can email him I guess

And I think a friend of James’ mixed the sound, Matthew Tuckey

And so the Video…

The video is the first of four, I wasn’t involved in the others, although I did have a hand in the review and design of the filming of them. You’ll find them on the YouTube or Facebook pages for character Portrait.

Kingdom Encounter 18 – Conference Highlights Film

The event was in Ealing, London, with a few hundred people of 3 days. It was already being live streamed by Word Out Media, but I came in to photograph the event and capture it from another perspective away from the demands of streaming. Traveling with the GH5, a gimbal, and the Fuji Xpro2 for stills, I captured the event, editing the photos as I went so David + Kingdom Encounter could keep their social media updated after each meeting.

After the event, I put together a highlights film, alongside a 60-second version for Instagram. I used the Live Stream for the stage stuff hence the quality difference. [it took me about 4 hours to make both versions]

NTC Graduation Highlights 2018

So great to have started working with the Nazarene Theological College Manchester, who are linked with the University of Manchester. Based in the leafy Didsbury of south Manchester, it’s such a great spot to film in. Their graduation takes place yearly with the ceremony at the Whitworth hall in Manchester, and then celebrations back at their campus. I came and filmed the event creating a highlights film from the event along with a full run through of the ceremony for people to rewatch! You can see the highlights below…

Filmed on the GH5 and GX80, and edited in FCPX.
